Major riots in East Jerusalem bring one of the Bible’s most critical prophecies into focus.

BY BRENT NAGTEGAAL

JERUSALEM – Late Saturday afternoon, Israeli police shut down the main artery into Jerusalem for over an hour in order to stem the flow of Arab busses into the city. The decision came as Israeli Arabs were making their way to Jerusalem. Some came to worship for Ramadan, and others to stir up further tensions that have increasingly led to rioting and violence in and around the Old City over the past two weeks.

The police were hoping to hold off a repeat of Friday night, where major clashes broke out between police and stone-throwing Palestinians inside the Temple Mount compound. Video of the incident showing Israeli police using stun grenades to disperse the rioters quickly spread through social media, which led to widespread criticism that Israel was attempting to subvert Muslim access to their third holiest site.

With tensions already extremely high in Jerusalem, it’s obvious that Israel would not have raided the compound unless forced by imminent threats of violence in the city.
